The NordFinance story began in 1998, when providing accounting services through a private limited company was a rare occurrence and salaried work was the only option for most accountants. It was a time when becoming an entrepreneur seemed difficult and paper-based work organization required a lot of time and dedication. However, Katrin Esinurme's bold decision and vision were the basis for the birth of NordFinance OÜ (at that time called Valmaring OÜ). Today, there is no NordFinance is simply an accounting service – we are a 2nd generation family business with a long history, whose strengths are innovation, a practical approach, and the ability to make accounting easy for their clients.

Even before the official founding of the company, acquaintances approached Katrin with several accounting questions. At one point, they asked: “But why don’t you really do it as a business?”, which became a turning point. This simple but influential question was the basis for the first steps that led to the creation of a personal and reliable accounting service. The initial clients came through recommendations, and we are grateful for the trust, as many of the clients from that time are with the company to this day.
In the early years, in the late 90s, modern cloud-based solutions did not yet exist – the tools were paper, checks, and a calculator. Checks were sent by mail or delivered in person, and systematizing and managing the entire data volume required a lot of manual labor.
Over time, both the number of clients and the scope of services grew. A significant leap forward occurred when a rapidly growing IT company involved in public procurement joined the company’s client base. This was at a time when Nordfinance had to meet completely new requirements. “This confirmed the outstanding work done so far, but at the same time was a challenge in itself. In the IT sector, speed and accuracy are of critical importance,” Martin and Kadri recall, adding, “While Nordfinance OÜ had previously worked mainly with smaller companies, we now saw what large and rapidly developing companies expect from accounting.” This experience highlighted both the company’s strengths and the need to adapt to the new situation.
By 2011, the company had four family members – Katrin, her husband, and son Martin with his wife Kadri. However, the autumn of the same year brought the company its most difficult challenge. After a long battle with illness, the heart of the company, Katrin Esinurm, passed away. This event had a profound impact on the entire family and also put the future of the company in doubt. How can we move forward if we can no longer ask the leader and the most experienced specialist for advice?
Although Martin and Kadri had been working in accounting for smaller clients for a few years, taking on the role of CEO seemed like something completely different. However, after careful consideration, they jointly decided to continue with the company and Martin took over with Kadri's support. The role of CEO of NordFinance.
In 2025, NordFinance will celebrate its 27th year of operation. Over the decades, the success of our family-owned business with a personal approach has been based on solid values that help maintain our personal approach, reliability, and innovative spirit.
We always think from the customer's perspective and do everything we can to make their life as an entrepreneur easier. Whether it's step-by-step instructions for setting up the necessary access or proactive advice on tax issues.
We seek and implement smart solutions that make accounting more streamlined and convenient for entrepreneurs. Our goal is to make managing finances take less time and provide more clarity.
We regularly invest in training our team to stay up to date with legal changes and industry innovations. Knowledge is the foundation of our work and allows us to provide the highest quality accounting services.
We are always just a phone call away for our clients. In case of any question or doubt, the client does not have to wait – we are always available by their side, thinking along with them and sharing our expert knowledge.
Digitalizing the workflow was a natural next step. In 2017, the company adopted SmartAccounts online accounting software. This was not just a convenient solution, but also a necessary step to optimize work processes. Two years later, another important tool was added – Envoice expense management software, which enabled document digitization and automation. “It was with SmartAccounts game changer"," explains Martin. "I no longer had to keep track of folders and papers with my finger. The necessary information started moving digitally and automatically reached the accounting system, and the processes became significantly smoother."
Previously, invoices arrived in different ways – one client sent documents one by one by email, another brought a pile of paper to the mailbox once a month. “I wouldn’t even want to think about that again,” laughs Martin. “After using SmartAccounts and Envoice, I can’t imagine having to manually enter data from paper.”
These innovations led to a more streamlined workflow and allowed NordFinance to focus on a more customer-centric approach. The paperless workflow made life much easier for customers and led to rapid growth – today, more than 150 long-term customers trust Nordfinance.
The changes continued the following year. While the company operated from a home office for 20 years, until 2018, as the client base expanded, the presence of a professional office became indispensable. In 2018, Nordfinance OÜ moved to the Tehnopol business park, where it was possible to offer professional meeting rooms for clients and take the company to a new level. All the innovations of previous years led to a name change to NordFinance OÜ in 2020.
Although the NordFinance journey is full of professional challenges and innovations, it is also full of humorous memories:
📌 Exchange shoes for accounting services?
When the company's client meetings were still held in the home office, a funny story once happened - a client accidentally left after a discussion wearing Martin's shoes! When the shoes were replaced with the correct ones a few days later, a story was born that is still remembered with laughter.
📌 Mobile phone – a luxury, not a standard work tool
One of the first clients decided to buy Katrin a mobile phone, which was rare at the time, so she could contact her accountant more quickly. Today, this seems obvious, but in the 90s, it was a real innovation!
📌 History on the shelves
Although accounting has become digital today, you can still find folders and paper documents from the first years of operation in our archive room - a little nostalgic reminder of where we started.
